February's Book Of The Month

rebekahwatkiss

It's been some time since I have posted my 'book of the month', and I was thinking how much I would love to start doing this again, as I believe in sharing fascinating reads with others. Good books are meant to be enjoyed and shared!

I have enjoyed an engrossing read this month, which not only has that captivating literary style which I love so much, but the plot from start to finish is absolutely gripping and draws you in from the beginning. This novel is 'Girl in the Walls' by A. J. Gnuse.

Set in Louisiana, this Southern Gothic novel is unlike anything I have read before, and is a unique piece of storytelling. It's both moving and heartbreaking, exhilarating and uplifting, mysterious and tense. It tells the story of a young girl who returns to her family home after a tragedy turns her world upside down, but her presence in the home is like the being of a ghost, as she dwells in the walls and secret places of the house whilst a new family takes residence there, unaware of her very existence . . .

The story is mostly told from the perspective of the young girl, although the narrative does swap characters at various points. The characters' voices are vivid and the author creates the mood using literary, lyrical language and uses sophisticated vocabulary throughout, making it a joy to read.

An excellent piece of storytelling, 'Girl in the Walls' is definitely one to add to your reading list!
