Love Always Perseveres

Are you familiar with the lyrics from the Rick Astley song 'Never Gonna Give You Up'? The chorus goes like this:

Never gonna give you up

Never gonna let you down

Never gonna run around and desert you

Never gonna make you cry

Never gonna say goodbye

Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

In many ways, this is what persevering love looks like. It never gives up on your loved one. It doesn't let them down or desert them. It never seeks to hurt the other person. Love always perseveres.

True love endures all things. This kind of love is reflected in the wedding vows a married couple say to each other:

"For better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part.”

We live in a day and age where perservering in a relationship isn't really esteemed or lived out. Just look at the divorce rate and broken marriages. So often, when things get tough, a couple decide to quit. To give up and walk out on the relationship. That's not what true love looks like.

Yes, life does get tough and messy. And relationships don't always have that honeymoon vibe. But that's not what real love is all about.

Love is steadfast and enduring. Love doesn't give up and walk out, even when things are difficult and it's hard to 'feel the love'. If you really love someone, you will make the effort to work through any problems and difficulties that come your way and come through the other side together. It's not always going to be easy, but God gives strength to those who ask Him; and where He is kept at the centre, relationships will flourish, for He is true love Himself.

If you're going through a hard time right now, don't give up. Keep going! Keep showing that persistent love and persevere. Love is worth it.
